Project with local schools

The SPACE Outreach Dance and Music Programs strive to help build a foundation for artistic appreciation and create greater self-esteem. The program is designed to complement the student’s current academic curriculum by adapting age-appropriate “books” for the stage.

SPACE Dance Department's local education projects provide unique opportunities for all those who participate from students and teachers to the young dancers assisting with them. Each year, the SPACE Dance Department collaborates with local primary schools on projects ranging from six to eight-weeks.

The dance projects allow many student's who may not previously had the chance to see dance, let alone participate in classes, engage in a creative environment encouraging the discovery of new gifts and talents as well as the freedom to express themselves in a new way. The teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to first, promote dance into their student’s curriculum and second, disseminate this knowledge and work within local clusters of schools.

As for the SPACE Dance Ensemble dancer’s; the projects allow them to gain the experience of being introduced to dance education, which becomes an increasingly important part of life within dance companies. These educational experiences arm our young dancers with the necessary tools and skills that contribute to their development in successful careers in or outside of the world of dance. Our dancers not only "learn to share their art" but also how to communicate and present themselves in manner beyond the typically silent means of a dancer.
The Project curriculum meets the Illinois Board of Education performing arts standards.

We offer low-cost classes and performance workshops to children of all ages, pre-K through high school. We strive for a multi-ethnic group that draws from both public and private schools.
